About me
I am a geoscientist based at the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos with also over 15 years of experience working with international organizations, multilateral donors and UN bodies as a consultant. My main research interest is on high mountain processes related to natural hazards and water resources. I use and develop geoscientific models and other datascience tools in combination with field campaigns to understand these processes and aid the development of operational tools.
My work is currently focused in the mountains of Central Asia unde the SDC co-financed project CROMO-ADAPT with UNIFR and the SPI financed PAMIR consortium. I also work with the WMO Global Cryosphere Watch as an expert on operational data exchange.
Research interests
The main focus of my research work is the development of numerical tools for improved large scale monitoring or forecasting in mountain regions. These include improved forcings for models by downscaling NWP products, enhanced estimation of peak-SWE through assimilation of remote sensing data into a numerical model and high resolution climate change scenarios appropriate for use in mountain areas. Validation of these tools often requires improved sampling of the heterogeneity of surface processes in mountains that is usally not available and therefore requires dedicated field campaigns. The main motivation for this work is the development of tools that can be used in sparsly observed mountain areas, particularly by poorly resourced national agencies or research institutes.
