Planstufig: New basics for the forest management planning of staged forests

Usually, forest areas with similar structure and tree species composition are grouped together for forest plannings. In mountainous and permanent forests, however, this is not very effective, as the provision of wood is associated with high costs and organisational effort. Based on forest roads, forest structures and ecosystem services to be provided, this project develops new principles for the separation of management and intervention units as a basis for planning.

The new bases for the identification of management and intervention units allow a systematic approach to planning measures and an overall optimisation of management, including the provision of ecosystem services. By deriving automated processes, the management units can also be adapted to current conditions following a disturbance event and take climate-sensitive forest management into account.
