The FORACCA project, funded by Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), aims to support climate-smart forest restoration and climate-resilient local development in Armenia. The project provides cutting-edge knowledge and targeted support for policy development and implementation at different impact level.

How does soil carbon redistribute across diverse mountain landscapes? SOCscape combine field data, soil analysis, and modeling to uncover the dynamics of carbon fluxes in these complex, geochemically varied environments.

With this project proposal we aim at testing a procedure based on high spatial resolution SAR data in Uttarakhand. Our goal is to promptly follow surface changes leading towards potential catastrophic slope failure events.

A recently discovered process of airborne snow metamorphism (ASM) affects the storage of isotope climate signals in ice sheets and the energy and mass balance of polar regions.

The BARKSHIELD project is dedicated to tackling a pressing issue: the European spruce bark beetle's impact on European forests. This small insect is causing big problems in forests across Europe, even in places where it was previously not a concern.

The aim of this project is to compare northern and southern hemispheres temperature histories over the past millennium using tree-ring anatomy data.

In the project Forest3DTwin, we want to build a prototype for the open storage of measured 3D forest plot data with reference data and are convinced that this can be established at WSL in the long term.

ECHOES integrates climate impact models with audio-visual art, using speculative design to convey complexities and engage diverse audiences.

Detection of avalanches using seismic and DAS measurements to improve avalanche forecasting, formation, and characterization.

Extremely high river water temperatures introduce thermal stress to aquatic species and reduce the thermal cooling efficiency of power plants, in particular if they persist over time. Despite the potentially severe impacts of such river heatwaves, there exists limited understanding of their occurrence, drivers, future changes, and impacts. The objective of this project is to fill this research gap and improve our understanding of riverine heatwaves in the Alps and Europe.
